Failure To Deescalate Comes Back To BITE Man In The Butt

If there’s one thing that I hate, it’s aches and pains. Of course, injuries are terrible, too (especially when one of my kids elbows me in the face hard when we’re roughhousing. That both hurts and is humiliating.).

Some aches and pains, and some injuries, come to most people with age. It’s just part of the process.

Other types of pain come when people play stupid games and get stupid prizes.

And let’s be honest, as a legal gun owner, it is both your responsibility and the wise thing to do to avoid confrontations unless you absolutely must get involved to prevent someone being injured.

Unfortunately, not everyone is so smart, though (hat tip to here for the lead). Luke McCoy writes,

A late-night altercation between two men who both rent at the same southwest Atlanta apartment complex ended with one being shot and the other detained for questioning.

Atlanta Police responded to 2924 Ridgeview Dr SW around 1:37 a.m. on December 24 following reports of a shooting. Officers arrived to find a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the buttocks. The victim was alert, conscious, and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

That’s right, one of the guys was shot in the backside, a literal pain in the butt.

Look, any firearm injury is no joke… but this one is just begging for the humorous treatment.

The really sad part about it, though, is that it was likely something that could have been avoided if either or both of these people had better deescalation skills. Because the best shot in any situation is the shot that wasn’t fired because it wasn’t needed.

Listen, if you haven’t worked on your deescalation skills in addition to your firearms training, you really need to add those skills into your overall training regime.

Remember, when it comes down to it, the fight that is avoided is the fight that is won.

And if you want to be less highbrow about your thinking on this, remember, that other guy probably isn’t worth the police report, the medical treatment, and the cost of the lawyer from the likely lawsuits. If you can let it go, let it go and get on with your life instead.
