I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to the day that I hear the postal carrier in my neighborhood drive by my house, I walk out to my mailbox, and I pull out my new firearm that just came by postal mail (I have a BIG mailbox).
I think that it will be up there on the same level with getting checks in the mail. A truly exciting thing.
But a Democrat (of course) in the House, instead of spending time trying to make a meaningful difference in the lives of everyday Americans, has decided that it is her duty to protect Americans from themselves. You know, the exact kind of thing that busybodies running your local HOA (homeowners association) would do. Sophie Brams writes,
Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) introduced a bill Friday aimed at blocking a rule proposed by the Trump administration that could allow handguns to be shipped through the U.S. Postal Service.
The bill, which was first shared with The Hill, would prohibit the Postal Service from “finalizing, implementing, or enforcing” any proposed or future rule that changes regulations governing the mailing of firearms and uphold a nearly 100-year-old federal ban on the practice.
“Michiganders want common-sense safeguards that protect families and support law enforcement, not reckless policies that create new loopholes for illegal guns,” Stevens, who is running for Senate, said in a statement to The Hill. “The last thing we should be doing is making it easier for handguns to move through the mail.”
Now, never mind that the people who actually commit gun violence are, overwhelmingly, not getting their firearms legally. Shipping firearms by mail isn’t going to suddenly change that situation. Criminals are still going to use criminal methods to get their firearms. They won’t be getting them by mail.
Why?
Because changing USPS policy to allow shipping guns doesn’t change the requirements for ATF forms to be filled out and for that background check to be passed before you can legally buy a gun.
But that kind of rational thinking is exactly the kind of thing that you won’t hear from a busybody who thinks that it’s their business to run your life and protect you from yourself instead of dealing with their own stuff before even thinking about getting involved in anything that you have going on.
Anti-2A politicians (which, let’s be honest, are all Democrats) are just busybodies who need to focus on real issues instead of trying to run everyone else’s lives.
But, hey, doing real things to try to solve real problems is hard work. Being a busybody isn’t, and that’s a big reason why they do that instead.
