The hunters that I know are all passionate about it. Many of them look forward to every season of the year. Hunting season, that is.
Deer season. Turkey season. Bow season. Black powder season. All of it. They love all of it.
And President Trump recently signed an executive order aimed at giving these people exactly what they want: more places to hunt. Mark Chesnut writes,
As hunters head into the woods this fall, they’re doing it under a new federal policy aimed at protecting and expanding their access to public lands. Hunters are also the men and women largely responsible for funding wildlife conservation in the nation.
Last month, President Donald Trump signed “Reinvigorating America’s Hunting Heritage” (Executive Order 14429) during a September 17 Rose Garden ceremony. The order aims to expand access to public lands for sportsmen, ease restrictions on traditional lead ammunition and tackle, and address regulations affecting anglers and boaters.
Chesnut continues:
The order includes several provisions aimed at expanding access to federal lands. Among them is a directive for the Secretary of the Interior to allow hunting in Castle Mountains National Monument in California and Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve in Idaho within 90 days, subject to specified protections.
It also directs the Secretaries of War, Interior, Agriculture, and Commerce to propose changes to policies or regulations restricting access to lands under their jurisdictions. Those changes include expanding hunting, fishing, and shooting opportunities, improving access to difficult-to-reach federal lands, and permitting the use of traditional lead ammunition and tackle.
There are further provisions in the order, too, aimed at benefiting hunters.
Now, several months ago I talked about new Department of the Interior rules about hunting, but with Trump signing an Executive Order, he’s taking it to another level to get the job done, and I know quite a few hunters who are going to be ecstatic about this.
Some of their wives, though, may be upset about all the time that they’re in the woods now, so, this may not make everyone happy, after all. Time will tell.
