Rahm Emanuel, former chief of staff for Obama and former mayor of Chicago, famously said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”
What Emanuel meant is that crises create situations in which bigger than normal changes can be made than can be made in non-crisis times. In and of itself, that’s not a bad thing to remember. With those on the political left, though, you know that they’re going to push agendas that are garbage.
And in this case, they’re pushing an agenda that is the complete opposite of who they’re trying to use as their excuse to push the agenda. Andrew Solender writes,
Almost immediately after [Charlie] Kirk was shot, Democrats began to agitate for a legislative response.
– In the commotion following a moment of silence for Kirk on the House floor Wednesday, Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-Conn.), a deputy whip for the gun violence prevention task force, yelled out, “Pass some gun laws!”
– Rep. George Latimer (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday he planned to push for gun control as well, telling Axios of his GOP colleagues, “Does it take shooting a conservative to start to realize the gun scourge? I hope they realize it.”
As you may know, Charlie Kirk was very pro-2A, and he would have found it outrageous that Democrats would be using his murder to push an agenda that he opposed.
And to be fair, there are a few Democrats who think that this is not a good time to push that agenda, that they should be focusing on our shared humanity instead.
Good for them. That’s a welcome change of pace from the side of the aisle that has been relentless in pushing their agenda and offensive in their insults and accusations towards anyone who disagrees with them.
Especially when it comes to the Second Amendment.
But heartless people like the Democrats pushing gun control in the shadow of Charlie Kirk’s grave don’t care about doing the right thing. They only care about making everyone else comply with their demands.
Charlie Kirk deserved better than this, and the American people do, too.
