Is This The New ‘GOLD STANDARD’ For Pistols?

When someone uses the term “gold standard,” they mean that whatever they’re talking about is the best in that category, the one that everyone is comparing anything else in that category to.

So, if you’re talking about sports cars, for example, a person might bring up a Corvette as what they consider to be the gold standard of sports cars.

Or if you’re talking about luxury watches, someone might refer to Rolex as the gold standard for those types of watches.

But this is a site about firearms, so our question is going to be about the gold standard for pistols, and someone asked if the pistol that we’re talking about today is the new gold standard.

The answer? Frankly, if it isn’t, the features and performance that you get for the price point is impressive. That pistol? The Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp. P.E. Fitch gives us details:

For what it costs in the real world, it’s hard to complain about the gun sitting in front of me. It’s a damn near Series 70 affair with a bushingless bull-barrel. It comes with a very bold and useful fiber optic front sight and a rear sight assembly. This assembly can be removed to install optics plates. As a courtesy, Kimber ships an RMR footprint plate from TAG. This means 2K11 buyers have something to work with that’s compatible with one of the most popular optics mounting footprints in the industry. 

Fitch notes that in the few hundred rounds of all types that he’d put through the pistol at the time of writing, “I haven’t had a single stoppage, even with that cheap ammunition loaded to steel or aluminum casings.”
