People (not just kids) do the darndest things. They say what they don’t mean. They have ulterior motives that they don’t tell. And they support policy positions for reasons that will shock other people who support that same policy position.
Since this is a pro-2A site, we’ll take, for example, the issue of promoting gun control as a way to decrease gun violence.
In the minds of most anti-2A advocates, this is a straightforward kind of (il)logic. Never mind that it isn’t true. Gun control does not decrease gun violence, but I digress…
So, because of their belief, anti-2A advocates are shocked to learn that some people who support gun control do so, not because they want to decrease gun violence, but because they don’t want competition in terms of who has firearms. In other words, criminals push for gun control because, then, their potential victims have fewer methods (legally) available to them to oppose the criminals and their activities.
Don’t believe me? Then, consider a recent story about a vocal advocate to “end gun violence” who was arrested for an unexpected reason. And with other unexpected details, too. Courtney Wiel writes,
The leader of an anti-gun violence group in the Bronx was among the 15 suspects arrested in connection with a major drug-running scheme in upstate New York.
Michael Rodriguez — the 48-year-old executive director of Bronx Rises Against Gun Violence, better known as BRAG — has been arrested for his alleged role in a drug ring operating in Middletown and Port Jarvis, New York, both located less than 100 miles northwest of the Bronx.
Last week, police raided the BRAG leader’s Yonkers home and allegedly found several incriminating items, including one and a half kilos of cocaine; scales for weighing; $165,000 in case; $50,000 worth of jewelry; and perhaps as many as four firearms. According to the New York Post, at least two of those firearms were illegal: a Ruger .380 caliber handgun and a Bond Arms .357-caliber handgun.
“So, the very guy that we have that is supposed to be stopping gun violence in one jurisdiction in New York City, is poisoning our jurisdiction up here,” said Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.
Surprised?
I’m sure that leftists are shocked and appalled, but I’m not surprised by this at all. After all, it just makes sense that someone who is doing illegal things which, often, use firearms to enact and enforce those illegal activities would advocate for disarming everyone else. After all, no one (not even criminals), wants to get shot unless that person has serious mental health issues.
Criminals, though? Yes, of course, they push for gun control. It just makes business sense for them to do so.
And that’s, yet, another reason why we oppose all gun control.
I like the idea that gun control would be an advantage to criminals and drug lords alike. Imagine that they can pull of their criminal acts and no upright citizen owning a gun or right to own one can stop them. What a perfect scheme from criminal minds.
