The Left Wants Calmer Rhetoric Now? Here’s Why

There’s an old saying that people living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. The idea of that saying is usually explained as “You shouldn’t accuse people of doing things that you’re doing because you’ll be proven a hypocrite and discredited.”

While that’s good advice, it’s advice that the political left hasn’t taken to heart. Not really.

Sure, in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder, they’re calling for calmer rhetoric and for less animosity.

Of course, they’re calling for that from those in the political center and right, and the mainstream legacy media, as they always do, are going all in on pushing those talking points (hat tip to here for the lead). Roger Kimball writes,

It has long been obvious that Left has a black belt in what psychologists call “projection.” They are masters of the art of accusing their ideological opponents of vile things of which they themselves are guilty. Their demand that we all must work to “lower the temperature” and “come together” in unity after the murder of Charlie Kirk is a subset of projection. They call their opponents “fascists” and an “extreme threat to the very foundation of the republic,” but when someone from their flock responds with violence, they blame “intemperate,” “right-wing,” MAGA rhetoric.

The left isn’t calling for calmer rhetoric now because they actually want that, though. They’re calling for that because they’re scared. And they should be. Again, from Kimball:

The left is terrified by the response to the ideologically motivated murder of Charlie Kirk. They should be. In the couple of days since the shooting, his organization, Turning Point, has signed up 18,000 new chapters. There have been mass demonstrations across the country—indeed, across the world—expressing sorrow at Charlie’s death and solidarity with his humane and humanizing ideas.

Also:

One key lesson that emerged from the horror of Charlie Kirk’s assassination was summed up neatly by a post on X: “They don’t kill you because you’re a Nazi; they call you a Nazi so they can kill you.” More and more people are coming to understand this.

And here’s the thing that you absolutely must remember: political violence in America almost never comes from anywhere but the political left. Yes, there are a very few fringe people that no one on the political right claims with dishonorable intentions, but they are very few, and the violence from the political left has been at much higher rates than you’ve been told.

In fact, you’ve been lied to about those statistics. Watch political commentator Michael Knowles prove that to you now.

Now, some of you may be wondering why I’ve spent so much time talking about the danger of the political left and how they’re trying to keep people of other political viewpoints from getting upset at leftists being leftists, and the answer is this: You need to gear up and be prepared, carrying everyday and training to get to and keep proficiency with your firearm because the calls for calm are only temporary.

That’s the playbook of the left. Play the peacemaker until they can force you at gunpoint to do what they want.

To be clear, I don’t say any of this because I want some kind of civil war between the political left and the political right. I hope and pray that our nation can return to having civil disagreements that have absolutely no element of violence.

But the fact of the matter is that there is a part of the political left that is willing to use violence (including firearms) to get their way and to stop you and I from even saying things that they don’t agree with. Things like saying that the Second Amendment is absolute and gun control should be completely dismantled nationwide.

Because of that, because of their willingness to do violence over a disagreement in political policies, it is more important than ever to have your firearm and to be able to use it to save a life if you find yourself in that awful situation.

Because those calling to calm down the rhetoric are the same people who called us Nazis and racists for wanting to privately own guns, and they’ll start doing it again, encouraging crazy people to violence, just as soon as they think that they can get away with it without retribution from us.

Let there be no retribution from us other than voting them out of office and besting their ideas in debate. Be ready to defend yourself, though, because some people see verbal disagreements as some twisted justification to physically attack you. And you want to be the one who is able to go home to your family if they try to do that to you.
