Gun-Free Zone Finds Minor With A Gun

Gun-free zones are an absolute failure as a concept. No question about it.

After all, would be shooters tend to target gun-free zones so that they can maximize the amount of murder and mayhem that they can cause, and that means that gun-free zones at schools, for example, aren’t actually helping our children to be safer.

Quite the opposite. Gun-free zones are making our children targets.

Beyond that, gun-free zones simply don’t work. Those who want to carry a gun into a gun-free zone can do that and often do.

Even in states that are almost gun-free zones on their own, people are walking into schools with firearms.

I wish that I were making some kind of sick joke about that. Instead, I’m just stating the truth. Michael R. Sisak writes,

A New York City high school student was arrested Thursday after bringing a loaded gun to class and writing on social media that he wanted to “shoot the school up,” authorities said.

Sisak continues:

Officers went to the school, located the student and found a 9mm handgun in his backpack that was loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition, Tisch said.

Now, the good news is that no one was hurt in this situation.

The crazy part, though, is that if this kid hadn’t posted his threats on social media, it’s likely that no one would have known that he planned on doing terrible things until he had already injured or killed several people.

Absolute failure of gun-free zones.

This story just goes to show that gun-free zones simply don’t work on any level, and pretending that they make any kind of positive difference is absurd (I’ve already said why they actually make things more dangerous for our children).

So, what is the solution to keep our kids safe?

It certainly isn’t gun-free zones.

The solution is to look into other ideas such as hardening our schools with real safety measures including armed personnel (yes, even armed teachers, if those teachers want to carry on campus) to keep our kids safe.
