Those who have been around the firearms community are familiar with the Tueller Drill.
The conclusion that many people take from the drill is that an attacker can get to you before you can draw and use your firearm for self defense if they are 21 feet or less from you. Thus, you’ll often hear reference to the 21 Foot Rule.
Now, the 21 Foot Rule isn’t a hard and fast rule (read about what Dennis Tueller said about the drill here).
Still, the “rule” can be a useful starting place when you are training for situations in which you are being attacked.
Now, I don’t know if any of the people in the video that you can watch below have ever even heard of the Tueller Drill. What I can say is that the cashier seemed to have the right concepts in mind anyway.

Now, there are some important points to reiterate from the video.
One point is that you should always carry your firearm. Why? Because you never know when you’ll actually need it.
God willing, you’ll never need to use it. But those with evil intent don’t exactly give us advance notice so that we can arrange to not be where they are in order to avoid a conflict.
Second, always carry with a round in the chamber. Why? Because, as Caleb mentioned, you need to be able to pull the trigger and go bang as quickly as possible when your life is on the line. The extra time that it takes to rack your slide after drawing your gun is time that could have been used to save your life… And may have been what would have saved your life when attacked.
There are other very worthwhile lessons to draw from this video, so it’s worth taking the time to rewatch.
And remember, always carry your firearm, train to proficiency with it, and train to maintain proficiency with it. The life that you save may be your own.
