If You Live In 1 State, You Are NOT SAFE

So, let me start off this by making the point that, I know, in the most extreme sense, none of us are ever completely safe.

Of course that is the case. That is one of the reasons that many people choose to carry daily: to be able to protect themselves and their family in an unsafe world.

But a city in one state, a state that drools over adding more gun control to their already terrible ideas around firearms, is now making some of their most vulnerable members of society even more vulnerable (hat tip to here for the lead). Kelsey Turner writes,

Spokane County has one of the highest reported rates of domestic violence in the state. But under Prosecuting Attorney Preston McCollam — up for election this year after being appointed to the position in July 2025 — the county has seen a surge in domestic violence cases being declined, the office’s data shows. While McCollam, Spokane police and survivor advocates point to differing reasons for the case refusals, they agree that the county’s criminal justice system is at capacity — and that consequently, some cases must take priority over others.

To be fair, the situation may not be in the control of McCollam.

[Spokane Police Department Sgt. Dave] Adams and advocates at Spokane’s YWCA attribute the increased refusals to prosecute to a June 2025 Washington State Supreme Court order that slashed the number of cases that public defense attorneys are allowed to take each year.

In other words, it’s a situation in which the public defenders who handle a significant number of these cases aren’t able to keep up with the workload even if they want to.

So, my point here isn’t to focus on why people accused of domestic violence are being released.

But that doesn’t change the fact that there is a problem and that many domestic violence victims aren’t able to be safe in that area because many (accused) perpetrators are being let back out on the streets, and Washington’s draconian gun control laws make it difficult for a victim be able to arm themselves in order to be able to protect themselves.

Just another awful example of how gun control empowers criminals to commit violence against the innocent (because I seriously doubt that everyone who didn’t get charged is actually innocent. Not in domestic violence cases.).

All gun control in the U.S. should be ended now if for no other reason (and there are other legitimate reasons) than that the most vulnerable must be able to protect themselves.
