Have you ever wanted a machine gun?
I don’t mean to use against anyone. I mean for the sheer novelty of it, for the excitement of shooting something like that.
Now, you probably already know that machine guns are very difficult to get your hands on in the U.S. these days. New ones aren’t permitted into circulation for the general public, and because collectors are the people who have them, the prices can be pretty steep.
But… there is, apparently, a loophole that you can use to get a machine gun: become a gang leader in Haiti!
Obviously, I’m joking about the loophole, and I have little doubt that machine guns are illegal in Haiti (Not having ever been to Haiti, I could be mistaken about that. I doubt it, though…). So, that’s probably not a legal way to get your hands on a machine gun.
It can be done, though, as shown in a recent video that Colion Noir highlighted. You can watch that video below.
Now, for realistic self-defense use, the machine gun in that video, a Colt R80 Monitor, probably isn’t what you want.
For collectibility, though, getting your hands on one of these guns legally would be a rare treat.
But back to the video. Like so often happens when those on the wrong side of the law have and do things with firearms, the gang leader’s lack of awareness of basic gun safety isn’t stopping him from showing off the gun and, probably, from using it.
Which brings us to a point that people need to really start asking themselves: If a petty criminal in Haiti can get access to a firearm that, even though made in America, has been nearly impossible for Americans to get their hands on in the nearly ninety years since they were made, how can anyone possibly think that gun control will prevent criminals (you know, the people who are the ones likely to commit gun violence) from getting their hands on firearms, too?
No matter what excuses that you give (Haiti is in a chaos situation right now without a functioning government to be able to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals, etc.), the fact of the matter is that gun control didn’t keep this Colt rifle from leaving the U.S. to get into the hands of a gang leader.
In other words, to put it bluntly, gun control didn’t do a thing to prevent violence in Haiti. Just like it doesn’t anywhere else.
