I once heard a marketing consultant, Dan Kennedy, say that too many people assume, because a person is an expert in one particular area, that expert is also an expert in multiple other areas that they really aren’t.
We see it all the time. A person who is well informed about, say orthopedic surgery, is assumed to be an expert on brain surgery, too, if he says it with an authoritative tone.
And I don’t know about you, but I don’t want someone who isn’t specifically a neurosurgeon specializing in brain surgery anywhere near my skull with a scalpel.
But people do this all the time, and a New York Times bestselling author recently acted like an expert on something that he clearly isn’t. And I’m not throwing shade at this guy. I like some of his books. But this one, his new one, gets this issue wrong.
Fortunately for us, Colion Noir brought the history to show what is the actual truth. Watch Colion Noir take apart Malcolm Gladwell’s assertion that the militias referred to in the Second Amendment were exclusively and only slave patrols in place to enforce chattel slavery.
Now, if anyone is still under the belief that gun ownership is racist (which is one of the concepts that Gladwell’s slave patrol idea promotes), the fact of the matter is that just the opposite is true: the racist thing is gun control, not gun ownership. The fact of the matter is that people have done terrible things because of race, but gun rights didn’t further racism.
But minorities taking advantage of gun rights by legally getting firearms, training to proficiency, continuing to train to maintain proficiency, and those minorities carrying daily is one of the single best ways to make sure that no member of a minority group is physically injured due to prejudice against them.
Because gun rights are among the most fundamental and powerful human rights.
