Those on the political left, like The View‘s Joy Behar, tend to come at situations involving guns with the lens of “guns are bad” and “legal gun owners should be disarmed and thrown in jail… for being legal gun owners.”
It’s a bizarre mindset to start from, but that is the way that they come across when they talk about guns.
What they don’t do, though, is say that people who have guns illegally should be punished much (if at all) for doing terrible things with a firearm. That seems especially true if the perpetrator is someone that they can characterize as a victim somehow or if the motivation is something that leftists agree with.
And I’m thinking that today’s story has to do with Behar agreeing with the motivation of an accused murderer, someone who committed a premeditated murder using a gun. Blaze News gives us the details:
The women of “The View” spoke out against the death penalty recommendation for Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing a health care CEO, but Joy Behar went farther in her prediction.
Behar said that Republicans might face a political backlash from supporters of Mangione because he’s so popular.
“Do you think there would be a big backlash? Because he’s very popular, this guy, I mean there could be a backlash,” she said. “All I’m saying is, politically, it could be a backlash against Republicans to give him the death penalty.”
Now, personally, I think that they only “backlash” that might come from recommending the death penalty for a guy who is accused of committing a meticulously planned premeditated murder using a firearm… the only backlash for that would be from people who wouldn’t vote for anything centrist, conservative, or libertarian. Ever.
In other words, the people who would complain would only be people who hate Republicans anyway. No change in situation.
What’s both notable and disgusting here, though, is the hypocrisy on the part of Behar and her co-hosts. They want to tone down the sentence if Mangione is found guilty, but they overwhelmingly supported outlandishly harsh sentences for people who committed no other “crime” than walking in the Capital building after being let in by security at that building.
But we’ve come to expect hypocrisy from the political left. In their eyes, using guns to push agendas are okay for them to do but even (truly) peaceful protests from those who are centrists, conservatives, or libertarians should have people treated like Nazi war criminals.
And this is just another example of why supporters of the Second Amendment simply cannot allow the political left any ground on the issue of gun rights. Because if the left can steal those rights, they’ll shove every insane, evil, and dictatorial policy down our collective throats and make life a living hell for everyday Americans.
