When it comes to concealed carry, most people have probably thought about the possibility of deep concealment.

Now, if you’re not familiar with the concept, deep concealment has been defined as carrying a firearm in a way that prioritizes concealment over accessibility.

In other words, if you’re focus on deep concealment, then you’re more concerned about making sure that no one else knows that you have the gun on your person (unless, God forbid, you have to pull it to protect a life) than you are about having quick and easy access to the gun.

Obviously, like anything else, there are pros and cons to deep concealment. On the plus side, you’re more likely to have the surprise element on an attacker. On the flip side, you’re less likely to win a fast draw competition at high noon if you’re doing deep concealment.

If deep concealment is your focus, though, then there’s a good chance that you’ll be focusing on carrying your gun below the waistline of your pants (or, at least, that’s the most common way to do deep concealment), and your focus will be on having a small gun for its hidability factor.

If that’s you’re focus, what would you carry? Some kind of pocket pistol comes to mind. Of course, the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 is a popular choice, too.

One reviewer, though, says that the best gun for deep concealability is one that’s been around for a number of years: the Glock 43 (not the 43X). Gary Anderson writes,

HIGHLIGHT:

Nearly undetectable in an Inside the Waistband Holster.

DESIGN:

The G43 is a very thin, single-stack 9mm. The slide is just under an inch comprehensive and easy to conceal. The G43 functions just like the full-size Glocks. When I carry the G21 as a side arm, this for my Concealed Carry walks, talks, and acts just like a full-size gun.

DEEP CARRY:

A few customers buy the G43 to carry in the “Flash Bang” holsters. This gun can hide anywhere with its thin profile and super small size. The G43 will run any 9mm ammo I load into the magazine; it never quits. The little beast of a gun does get a little hot after the third magazine, so unless re-holstering is needed, I let it sit on the shooting bench with the slide open for a few minutes.

Anderson makes a solid argument for the 43. Reliable, small enough to be almost undetectable. Those are attributes that you want for a deep concealment carry gun.

Obviously, though, the right pistol could be a different one for you.
