As you’ve no doubt heard by this point, Donald Trump won the presidential election against Kamala Harris a week ago at this writing.
That’s great news even for people who aren’t Trump fans. Why do I say that? Because Harris would have, in my opinion, have been a disaster for our country for so many reasons, one of which is her terrible stance on legal gun ownership and the Second Amendment (no matter how she tried to pretend otherwise in the election).
And with Trump winning, it shouldn’t be any surprise that he’s already receiving pressure from different groups to try to get their way when he actually goes into office in January.
What may surprise you about the pressuring that we’re going to talk about, though, is who is pressuring Trump. It’s probably not who you would expect. Michael Clements writes,
Gun rights advocates say they expect Trump to follow through on his pledge [to protect Second Amendment rights]. The first step will be to rescind executive orders and administrative rules issued by the previous president and federal agencies.
“We’re going to undo the damage first, then expand gun rights,” Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, told The Epoch Times.
Clements continues:
“The first priority is to end the whole-of-government attack on our industry,” Mark Oliva, managing director of public affairs for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, wrote in an email to The Epoch Times.
“There should be no taxpayer-funded bureaucracy to deprive Americans of their constitutionally protected rights.”
That’s right. The people pressuring Trump in this case aren’t giant corporations looking for government handouts or people from some fringe group looking for special treatment.
No, in this case, it’s Americans simply wanting our Federal government to protect our Second Amendment rights instead of giving in (even an inch) to anti-2A zealots with no grip on reality.
Those rights belong to us, and they aren’t the government’s (or anyone else’s) to take away from us.
