So much of what happens in modern business decisions and in politics are caused by surveys.
It’s true.
You might be surprised by how much surveys influence what politicians do when they are trying to make decisions. Those politicians usually want to get reelected, after all, and making their constituency happy is a big part of that (the other part, some would say, is money).
On a side note, many people would be surprised by how much the phrasing of the questions in the survey can affect the outcome of the survey, so maybe we shouldn’t trust surveys completely.
But there is no doubt that they are influential.
And a new survey, perhaps unintentionally, reveals what the pro-2A political movement needs to focus on. Ali Swenson, Sarah Jane Tribble, and Linley Sanders write,
And rural voters rank pocketbook concerns and fraud in government programs higher among the things they want to hear about from politicians than other perennial issues, such as gun policy and abortion policy.
Now, how people are fairing economically being a big motivation to people for how they vote isn’t a big surprise, After all, Bill Clinton reportedly won his first election by focusing on one phrase, “It’s the economy stupid!:
And you would think that everyone would be concerned about fraud in government programs.
But what may be concerning is that “gun policy” isn’t being included with those top few major issues that many voters are focusing on.
Sure, you and I care a great deal about our government being pro-2A, but for many Americans (those who don’t really understand the consequences of gun control on everyone, not just gun owners), it isn’t as important as what they can see the more immediate effect of.
And that, in essence, says that pro-2A political activists need to focus on reengaging Americans in the importance of the Second Amendment because how people vote effects what we’re able to do in our day-to-day lives.
