NYC Is In Hot Water Over Gun Rights

When it comes to the Second Amendment, I can’t help but think that New York’s government is, to use the phrase of a woman that I worked with some years ago, “special.”

It took me a year or two to realize that when she asked if someone was “special,” what she was really asking is if that person was mentally challenged (handicapped).

I’m not kidding in the least. That’s really what she meant.

Now, my purpose in telling that story isn’t to make fun of anyone dealing with mental difficulties. Not in the least.

My point is that New York’s gun laws really are just, to put it politely, unintelligent.

Or to put it bluntly: stupid.

And New York City has bought into that nonsense, too.

That’s why they’ll be in court about it very soon. Luke McCoy writes,

Nine New York City residents who applied for concealed carry licenses have filed a federal lawsuit against the City of New York, accusing the city of unconstitutional delays in processing their applications. The case, Milani et al. v. New York City, was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and directly challenges the New York Police Department’s License Division over excessive, unreasonable, and unjustifiable processing times that plaintiffs say violate their Second Amendment rights.

Let’s be honest: delaying issuing a carry license is just another way of trying to prevent someone from being able to exercise their Second Amendment rights, so, this lawsuit makes perfect sense.

And, judging from how the Supreme Court has been ruling on gun issues over the last few years, it seems likely that New York City’s policy will have to change to enable people to exercise their rights there without harassment from leftist politicians and from bureaucrats.

The saddest part about this lawsuit is that anyone had to file it in the first place. Hopefully, though, this will be the last time, and New York’s politicians and bureaucrats can get their heads on straight about the Second Amendment.

It would only be right.

  1. NYC has always thought it was special. In fact, so special that it has its own set of laws and rules aside from the rest of the state’s laws and rules regarding permitting, the purchase of ammo and anything related to the 2’nd amendment. They do, do their own thing down there in spite of what goes on in Albany. This is crazy considering that most of their legislature is composed of downstaters. They gave NYC the unheard of ability even, to perform eminent domain takings of land in counties in the upstate to basically steal land from other counties for the use of a water supply. The whole state is run by NYC, therefore special and insane.

  2. Caleb – I am writing to you here and will also be emailing you because I have an important question and it occurs to me you may be the person to ask about, given this particular posting, as well. And that is: I am between a rock and a hard place because of the egregious behavior of the slumlord owner of the motor home I am living in, and I note that one of the clauses in the contract (rent-to-own) is that no one in this mobile home park is allowed to have a gun. How does she claim the right to trump all of our Second Amendment rights?, and I am hoping this is one way to contest the agreement, which I desperately need to get out of. There are other egregious clauses, but that is a key one.

    • If it was me, I would get a gun and not tell them or anybody else that I had one. You can always disguise it. It is none of their business. I would also find another place to live. Your safety is more important than their outlandish rules. That is your right. They have no right to tell you what you can or cannot own.

    • If it was me, I would purchase a weapon and not tell them or anybody else. It is none of theirs or anybody else’s business what you own or do not own. You can always find a way to hide it and take it to your home or car. Always keep it with you in case they want to look at the inside of your home. Also purchase a stylish and inconspicuous concealed carry purse. As a US citizen under the Constitution, you have a right to bear Arms and protect yourself. Seek the many Gun Clubs for women.

  3. It was my terrible misfortune to have been born in the People’s Republic of New York, specifically the Province of Brooklyn. I must say it was a delight to leave a blue state and migrate to a red state. I will not go to the blue part of the country until it changes. My estimate is that this will be never because there is no cure for stupidity!

  4.
