People surprise you sometimes. Maybe that’s why they can be both so fascinating and so frustrating at the same time (sometimes it’s just one person that has that effect on you!).

So, yes, I find myself reading pop psychology books, and articles on job preferences catch my eye. In fact, I read one recently that talked about the jobs that American workers love the most and dislike the most.

Some of those didn’t surprise me much. Hospitality workers ranked among the happiest to be doing that type of work, and that makes sense to me. Why? Because if you dislike working with people, aren’t you going to go looking for a job with minimal people contact as opposed to one that majors on people contact like hospitality?

The people that go into that type of work do it, at least in part, because they like working with people so much.

Healthcare, in case you are wondering, had the worst happiness rankings.

But one that ranked highly surprise me initially, though, the more that I thought about it, the less that I felt that initial surprise. Jeff Cox with CNBC writes,

Other sub-sectors that scored high positive ratings were firearms stores (89.53%), cafes and coffee shops (89.50%) and accommodation (84.09%).

Skip the coffee shops and cafes, and skip accomodation.

Firearms stores had some of the highest rankings of worker happiness.

Sure, part of that may be that they likely feel the most secure of any employees about the likelihood (or lack thereof) of an armed robbery at their workplace.

Or maybe it’s that they get to handle guns all day (I mean, we’d all like that, wouldn’t we?).

Whatever the reasons, I didn’t expect to read that people who work at firearms stores are some of the happiest workers around. It was a complete surprise.

But the more I think about it, the more I can see the appeal.

So, if you’re looking for a new job that you’ll really like, then you may want to consider applying at a firearms store. It could be the happiest job that you ever have.
