Springfield Armory is a brand that has its many fans, and there’s no question that they’ve driven much of the new microcompact pistol features that many manufacturers have made available when they came out with the Hellcat model with its very concealable size but with magazine capacity more like a full-size pistol.
And while Springfield isn’t known for making the most expensive guns on the market, they aren’t exactly known for being in the Hi-Point price range range or even in the always-competitively-priced Taurus range.
But that may be about to change.
See, Springfield is releasing their new version of the XD series of 9mm pistols, the Mod 3, and it will have an MSRP of $325. That’s not a typo. And that means a street price that is more likely to be in the $275-$300 range.
Richard Johnson gives us the details:
With an MSRP of just $325, it’s hard not to mention the word “value” when reviewing the XD Mod.3. With its combination of proven performance and modern upgrades, it offers a lot of gun for the money. But if you ask me, I think the XD Mod.3 stands alone as being a good option at any price point you might expect for a pistol of this type.
Consider what the gun offers. It’s a proven design with more than 20 years of history. In addition to being utterly reliable, the semi-automatic pistol offers a range of features including an optics cut, accessory rail, fiber optic front sight, superb front and rear slide serrations, and an enhanced grip that feels fantastic in the hand. And don’t forget that this gun is 100% compatible with the existing supply of affordable 9mm XD magazines.
I simply don’t know of a better deal on a firearm anywhere in the market.
You do get the impression that Johnson likes this pistol. And, based on what it offers, you can see why. Nice upgrades, and an MSRP that is $125-$150 less than current street prices for the XD Mod 2? For those who are XD fans or who just want a dependable pistol that doesn’t break the bank, this gun has a lot of appeal.

With all that said, if you’re in the market for a budget-priced pistol that doesn’t feel like a cheap firearm, the XD Mod 3 may be one to put on your list to consider.
