New To Pistols? How To Pick Your First One

Over the last few years, with the economic difficulties over that time period and the explosion in crime during the previous administration, we’ve seen a huge increase in the number of first time gun owners.

In that increase, we’re seeing an increase in gun ownership among women and ethnic minorities. This is all absolutely fantastic. After all, an increase in the number of law-abiding Americans owning, training, and carrying a firearm helps to keep all of us safer and helps to ensure that our Second Amendment rights are still available for our children and grandchildren.

Many people, though, don’t have the advantage of growing up in a gun owning household, so, they come to firearms not knowing what they should buy for themselves. Even narrowing down the possible options to pistols (since most new gun owners are buying for self-defense purposes, including daily carry), that leaves a massive number of choices for the new gun owner to pick through to make their decision.

Fortunately, Jeff, the director of training at Patriot Training Center, gives us a quick masterclass on how to pick out your first pistol, and you can watch that video below.

I love the fact that Jeff starts with the most basic and, therefore, most important thing to know so that you can pick the pistol that is right for you: what is your purpose for that gun?

Jeff, then, goes on to cover other factors, many that you may not have considered, that you need to keep in mind in making your decision, so, if you haven’t watched the full video, I really recommend taking the 15 minutes or so to do that. Even if you’re a seasoned gun owner, the review will be time well spent, and if you are new to gun ownership, this video will be priceless to you.

  1. Jeff, nice video, very informative BUT, it could be much better if you wore a white or light colored shirt. When you were holding all of these guns up in front of you and you are pointing out characteristics of the gun, size, shape, mechanisms, you can barely even see the black gun in front of your black shirt. This takes away from the benefit of your video. Always wear a light colored shirt when doing this.
