Nearly Half Of State AGs Go To Bat For You

With over a third of state Attorney Generals in the U.S. actively working to try to keep you from being able to exercise your Second Amendment rights, it would be easy to think that most politicians in America are corrupt, anti-constitutionalist shills for Hillary Clinton and her cronies.

And there are certainly quite a few elected officials in the U.S. that I would apply that label to.

Still, there are a number of elected officials who actually do care about doing the right thing, who do care about the Constitution, and who do care about your Second Amendment rights.

In fact, nearly half of all state Attorney Generals just went to bat for you in an effort to claw back and reclaim your 2A rights for you (hat tip to here for the lead). Luke McCoy writes,

In a unified move to support Second Amendment rights, 24 state attorneys general, led by Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond and West Virginia Attorney General John B. McCuskey, have formally urged Congress to pass H.R. 38, the “Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.” The letter, dated May 21, 2025, was addressed to House and Senate leadership and outlines strong support for nationwide concealed carry reciprocity for law-abiding citizens.

The letter argues that the measure respects state sovereignty while protecting constitutional liberties. H.R. 38 would allow individuals permitted to carry concealed handguns in their home state to do so in any other state that allows concealed carry, without violating local laws. The bill applies strictly to law-abiding citizens and explicitly excludes individuals prohibited from firearm possession under federal law, including felons, domestic abusers, and those with adjudicated mental illness.

Even with the exclusions in place (all of which are common in many, probably most, states), this bill, if passed and signed into law, would go a long way to keeping blue states such as California, Illinois, and New York from being able to keep you from legally carrying your firearm when you visit (or even just drive through) those states.

Some will argue that this bill doesn’t go far enough, that it doesn’t completely strip anti-2A states of the ability to harass law abiding gun owners there.

I agree.

Having said that, it would move those states closer to Second Amendment compliance than they are currently, and a step in the right direction, no matter how small, is still an improvement on the current situation.

I’ll take that.
