There’s an old saying that says that you shouldn’t mess with someone who is elderly. Why? Because they’ve lived a long time by knowing how to be the most dangerous person in the room.
That story certainly seems to apply to a guy in our story today. Not only was this elderly man effective at neutralizing an attacker, but he did it after being attacked so roughly that he suffered two broken legs (hat tip to here for the lead).
He’s a genuine bada$%. Luke McCoy writes,
After the suspect forced his way through an open gate and into the home, the woman fled outside, screaming. Her next-door neighbor, a 79-year-old man and military veteran, came to her aid armed with a firearm. The veteran confronted the intruder and warned him to leave, but police say the suspect physically attacked the man, lifting him and throwing him to the ground.
Despite suffering two broken legs during the assault, the homeowner remained conscious and armed. As the suspect approached him again, the man fired three times, fatally striking the intruder. The suspect collapsed onto the elderly man, pinning him down until help arrived. The veteran was later transported to the hospital with multiple injuries.
Now, think about that. This guy is 79 years old. He’s not exactly a spring chicken.
It sounds like he’s dealing with the frailty that often comes with advancing age.
Yet, after being physically attacked (which gave him two broken legs), he still managed to shoot the attacker.
This guy needs another medal for this heroic work (he was saving a female neighbor from the attacker when he was attacked).
It was a good thing for all of the innocent people involved in this incident that this gentleman had access to his firearm and was willing and able to intervene. His neighbor may not have been alive otherwise.
