If you’re really into guns (and I’ll assume that you are since you’re reading this site), then you are probably always on the lookout for new firearms and equipment, especially equipment which can make you a better shooter.
This means that you’re already likely familiar with the concept of a red dot sight for a firearm. If you’re unfamiliar with it, just know that it is a sighting system that doesn’t magnify the target in your sights but gives you a red dot in your sights showing where you are aiming. Just to be clear, though, a red dot sight is not a laser sight. Different equipment for the same purpose: to make you a more accurate shooter.
Red dot sights have been available as aftermarket upgrades for years, but Sig Sauer has decided to release a pistol with red dot sights built in (see the image of the one of the models above). From Sig Sauer’s press release (hat tip to here for the lead):
SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to introduce red dot accuracy right out-of-the-box with the P320 RXP Series pistols. The P320 Full-Size, Compact, XFULL, and XCOMPACT RXP pistols combine the latest advancements in reflex optics with a factory-installed ROMEO1PRO Reflex Optic from SIG SAUER Electro-Optics with the award-winning P320 pistol.
“Red Dot Reflex Optics have long been the standard amongst the military and law enforcement, and are rapidly growing in popularity amongst commercial consumers. The number one barrier to universal adoption of the red dot in the commercial market is the installation and zeroing of the optic on the pistol,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc. “SIG SAUER is the only manufacturer in the firearms industry that can truly integrate a firearm and an optic into a single system right from the factory to completely eliminate the installation hesitation of the red dot. With the introduction of the SIG SAUER P320 RXP series of pistols we are leading the Red Dot Revolution so end users can easily achieve greater performance and increased accuracy with one simple purchase.”
Sig Sauer is offering red dot sights preinstalled on four different models of pistols all of which (at the time of this writing) are variations on their P320 pistols.
So, if you’re someone who has an interest in greater targeting accuracy and you’re in the market for a pistol, this may be a model to consider.
