Sometimes people just take things too far. You find out about it, and you not only shake your head, you actually say out loud, “Dear God, you have got to be kidding me!”
That’s pretty much what I did when I found out that one firearms manufacturer made a manufacturing decision that takes things too far, in my opinion. Their decision is just over the top and crazy. I’m just flabbergasted.
How this came across my desk is that I was reading over a firearms review article, and a certain pistol was called the “Do-All Easy Button.” I thought to myself, “I wonder what that’s about,” and decided to read further. I’m glad that I was sitting down when I did. David Lane writes,
If you want options from the factory, no one matches the S&W Bodyguard 2.0. With more than 30 different SKUs, the Bodyguard 2.0 comes in multiple colors, with or without manual safety, Cerakote, PVD, Performance Center upgrades, and a lot more.Â
I thought, “He’s got to be kidding! There’s no way that they offer 30 different model options for the Bodyguard 2.0! That’s insane!” And to my relief, I was right. They don’t offer 30 options.
They actually offer 32 options. (To be fair to Lane, his original article was published three months before the time of this writing).
Yes, Smith & Wesson offers 32 different “model” numbers (SKUs) for the Bodyguard 2.0. Admittedly, most of those are different color options for those who want to color coordinate their carry pistol with their outfits (Apparently, Smith & Wesson doesn’t agree with Henry Ford’s famous statement that people could have whatever color Model T that they wanted, as long as it was black.).
The cow print (yes, there really is a cow print option for the Bodyguard 2.0) is pretty amusing, and I suspect it would be in vogue at a Chick-Fil-A visit (if you remember their famous “Eat Mor Chikin” ad campaign).
But seriously, 32 different factory options? That’s a lot to choose from.
Having said that, while I’m personally a bare bones, give-me-dark-gray-or-black for my pistols kind of guy, if someone wants a cow print pistol or any of a variety of colors, more power to them.
So, I guess the answer to the question of whether Smith & Wesson went too far with all of these options for this pistol is: it depends on what you like.
Whatever you like, though, it looks like you can probably get a Bodyguard 2.0 that will work for you.
