Some people will disagree with this statement, but some people will say that the ultimate concealed carry gun is a pocket gun.
Now, I get the disagreement between those who want a pocket gun and those who want something else.
Sometimes it’s a disagreement on ergonomics and how it feels in your hand and while you’re shooting it. Sometimes people just prefer something with more mass (a heavier pistol) to make shooting more comfortable. Sometimes people want accessories like an optic on their pistol which may not work on a pocket gun if you’re wanting to actually keep it in your pocket instead of a waistband holster. And sometimes people want more carry capacity than a pocket gun might have.
Whatever the reason, whether someone is for or against a pocket gun is going to be a personal preference issue.
But if you’re someone who likes pocket guns or is considering a pocket gun, then Smith & Wesson has a revolver that may be worth considering. Robert Sadowski sums up his thoughts on the gun this way:
The 632 weighs about a pound loaded, and I don’t notice it. That is exactly what a pocket revolver should do. It should be present when needed without constantly reminding you that it is there.
Do I feel undergunned? Not in the least. Is it an odd caliber? Sure, but the extra round capacity provides peace of mind. The .32 H&R Magnum also gives the shooter a useful range of ammunition, from mild .32 Special loads for practice to noticeably hotter defensive loads.
The S&W 632 is not a miniature service pistol, and it does not pretend to be one. It is a lightweight, snag-free, six-shot J-frame with excellent close-range sights, a smooth DAO trigger, and recoil that remains more manageable than a lightweight 357 Magnum.
Its short ejector rod and occasional sticky Buffalo Bore cases deserve attention, but they do not erase what the revolver does well. For discreet summer carry, pocket carry, or shooters who want more capacity without moving to a semiautomatic, the Lipsey’s S&W 632 makes a strong case for the little .32.
About a pound loaded is really light. You’d hardly notice the weight in your pocket no matter how you’re dressed.
And that’s kind of the point of a pocket pistol, isn’t it? So small and unobtrusive that no one notices that it’s there… until you need it.
