Florida County Starts Using Controversial Method To Combat Gun Violence

Gun violence. It’s all over the news and doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. And many people have ideas on the best way to combat this issue, but few are willing to do the controversial thing that Orange County, Florida is willing to do: profiling.

As you’ve no doubt heard, profiling is incredibly controversial because it attempts to identify potentially dangerous people based on certain noticeable characteristics. Many social justice warriors associate the term profiling with law enforcement officers targeting people based on their race or religion (as identified by dress).

In this case, though, while law enforcement officers will participate in a walk to raise awareness of the program, called Operation Ceasefire, this profiling is not being facilitated by law enforcement officers. In other words, other people are directing the program. Christina Jensen writes,

The goal is to target a small portion of young people who are most at risk for gun violence.

Social service workers will help those people get a job, while police officers will remind them of the consequences of violence.

The program is being promoted by Glenton Gilzean, the CEO of the Central Florida Urban League, who “says he got the idea from other cities that have implemented the program.”

Now, based on “community initiatives” that I’ve seen before and the work of “community organizers,” I can’t say that I’m optimistic that this will make a big dent in gun violence in that area. I do hope that I’m wrong about that, though, and I respect the fact that people in that community are working to try to make their community a safer place.

The real issue is if these community organizers can communicate with the people who don’t mind injuring others in a way that these potentially violent people will listen. Unfortunately (at least when it comes to working for this issue), those kinds of communication skills seem to be rare among people who are community activists. I hope that this case is the exception to that rule.

  1. I hate the term “gun violence”, the correct term is “crime”. By using this term you are associating guns with violence. Since a gun is an inanimate object it cannot be violent on it’s own. Guns are merely tools to be used in many ways. Self protection is part of the second amendment in the constitution. Anti- gunners are following the Communist example of the past. A government that does not trust its citizens with guns is not a trustworthy government. Please stop using the term ” gun violence” as this is part of their strategy to normalize the term, and connect weapons with only violence.

  2. Trained concealed carriers, whether they be teachers, parents, or retired military or police, need accerss to schools, and should always be present to combat this sort of atrocity. That’s why good guys carry guns.

  3. WHY ! THE GUN HATERS ARE GOING BE WORSE THAN EVER ! THATS WHAT THEY DO !! THEY HAVE NO IDEA OF WHAT THEIR DOING ! AND THEY DO NOT CARE ! I GUARANTEE EVERYBODY . TAKE ALL THE GUNS AWAY FROM LAW ABIDING AMERICANS ! AND THE DAMN MENTALLY ILL NUT JOBS WILL FIND ANOTHER WAY OF DOING THIS CRIME . I WILL TELL YOU THIS , IVE BEEN CARRYING A GUN FOR MORE THAN 45 YEARS , AND I HAVE NEVER COMMITTED A CRIME WITH MY WEAPON ” EVER ” MY HEART GOS OUT TO THES KIDS AND THEIR FAMILIES ! AND MY PRAYERS FOR THESE FAMILIES ARE TRUE. AND SINCERE !!!!!

  4. My problem is the MSM is all over the crime scene before they even cleared the school . Bothering the chief who I’m sure has more important things to do than answer a bunch of gun hating questions only to further there agenda. We have to stop them from sensationalizing every gun story . This only adds fuel to the fire. Which makes the next Kid see this and decides to do it for attention also.

    • That’s because ‘community organizers’ have always been better at organizing riots than peace marches

  5. The problem the anti-gun crowd won’t face is that they are violating habeas corpus for the entire population by assuming a gun will provide guilt. WTF are the robes? They should see this clearly. AND, statistics prove that where gun carrying is common and approved, there is less violent crime.
If I am carrying a baseball bat, is it assumed I will swing it at somebody? Of course not. Logic, will you ever return?
I know how to kill with my hands. Should I be locked up because I just might use that defensive skill? God, I hope it doesn’t come to that.

  6. WILLIAML.Ramsburg and May I add citizens without guns are prey for a tyrannical government

  7. It was my belief, that only the State of Florida could issue a new gun law. In order to keep seperate counties or cities from issueing conflicting laws from county to county or city to city. But Palm Beach County has a special rule that requires a three day wait before a person could recieve the Handgun, rifle or shotgun after it has been paid for.I think there are 4 other counties in this state that require the same. But Chicago as well as New Orleans have very strict laws relating to Firearms, yet they have the highest rates of crime that involve Firearms than other cities that do not have such laws. Explain please.

  8. If you outlaw guns then only outlaws will have guns, they don’t care about laws and they will carry and use guns for crimes until the day they die. If more law abiding people carried guns there would be less crime because the criminals would think twice about pulling a weapon and using it on someone. It would be like playing Russian roulette everytime they thought about committing a crime. If you think taking guns away from law abiding people is the answer your wrong and this is what the criminals want so they can pray on people who can’t defend them selves.

  9. The murders at schools would be significantly curtailed if school boards would post on the bulliten boards of the local range that they were seeking retired LEO’s, Military (honorary discharged), and other CCW holders that pass the smell test. Give them adequate training, and pass out the calendars to let them sign up. I’m sure there are blanks to fill and more hoops to jump through. Maybe I’m a Pollyanna, but I think it could work…with tweaks.
