Growing up in the 1970s, James Bond was something that I would always sneak back into the TV room (after I was supposed to be in bed) to watch on TV as my father was watching, too. I specifically remember being fascinated by the intro to Thunderball and have had a love for the classic Bond movies ever since.

If you’re a Bond fan, too, then, you’re probably familiar with the iconic pistol that many people associate with Bond: the Walther PPK.

Of course, whether you like .32 as your caliber choice is going to be a personal decision, but if you’re comfortable with that caliber, or if you just want to enjoy the nostalgia of owning a gun like James Bond, then, today’s pistol may warm your heart.

Why? Because Walther has just released a new version of this pistol with an upgrade. Adam Borisenko writes,

Walther recently reintroduced the famous PPK and PPK/S in .32 ACP, and now the company has announced a suppressor-ready version called the PPK/S SD as well. If you’ve ever wanted to LARP as a secret agent, things just got a whole lot easier.

Chambered for .32 ACP, the Walther PPK/S SD is the same as the standard PPK/S besides its new threaded barrel. Walther has not specified the thread pitch, but it’s presumably the standard 1/2×28. However, the threaded barrel extension was designed to ensure proper alignment when using a suppressor.

Borisenko also noted that this pistol ships with a thread protector and two 7-round magazines. It’s not going to win any prizes for high capacity (and some will argue that .32 isn’t what you need for personal protection), but it will definitely meet that nostalgia need.

You can see a bit more about this Walther model and its history in Bond movies in the video below.

So, if you’re in the market for something a little different, and, especially, if you want a pistol that feels like a throwback to an earlier time, the Walther PPK may be one to consider. And, if you’re pretending to be James Bond on your home shooting range, remember to train with the suppressor that every spy needs, too.
