Mass Shooting Brings Into GLARING FOCUS Why Gun Control Makes Things Worse

By now, you may have heard about the horrific mass shooting that happened a few days ago in Bondi Beach, New South Wales in Australia.

Absolutely horrible.

As of the time of this writing, 15 people were killed by the two gunmen (yes, only two shooters), including a ten year old girl, and 29 people were injured and taken to the hospital.

Now, we’re not going to talk about most of the non-firearms oriented details of the shooting here because we want to focus on the gun control aspect. Specifically, we’re going to talk about how Australian gun control (which anti-2A advocates love) utterly failed to prevent this mass shooting.

The first thing to note is that firearms can be extremely difficult to get in Australia (and, of course, after this shooting that gun control failed to prevent, politicians there are pushing for even more gun control). With that in mind, you have to ask, how did the shooters get multiple firearms legally?

ABC Australia noted that “one of the two shooters […] was legally in possession of six guns, according to the NSW police commissioner.” That included “at least a shotgun [and] two precision rifles.”

So, gun control failed to prevent two mass shooters (father and son, in this case) from getting firearms legally which were used in this crime.

The other point worth noting is that the shooting lasted ten minutes, according to a article from The Epoch Times. Also, according to the government, first responders arrived in about ten minutes (though, at least one person said that it seemed more like twenty minutes before police arrived).

So, all of this carnage happened within ten minutes.

And it doesn’t sound police were dragging their heels to get there.

But if police couldn’t get to the scene quick enough to prevent the murder of 15 people including a little girl, it’s absolutely moronic to think that law enforcement will be able to prevent mass shootings and other types of mass killings.

We’ve talked about this before. Someone armed on the scene has a substantially better chance of reducing the number of people shot by a would-be mass shooter than waiting for law enforcement to show up (and if you want to have better knowledge about how to stop an active shooter, this is worth taking two hours of your time to watch).

An armed citizen on the scene has absolutely the best chance of preventing a shooting from turning into a mass shooting, but Australia’s gun laws prevented anyone from being there to be able to shoot back, and that allowed the murder of at least 15 people (if everyone who was injured recovers).

Gun control failed to prevent the shooters from getting guns, and it made it easier for the shooters to do an amazing amount of evil.

Gun Control is not only a failure at saving lives; it actually significantly contributes to more people dying from violence.

It’s gun control, not private gun ownership and being able to legally carry a gun, that needs to end.
