This Pistol May Not Be Practical, But It Will Scare An Intruder To Death

I’ve heard it said that one of the reasons that some people recommend having a shotgun as a home defense firearm is that everyone recognizes the sound of the shotgun being racked. There is simply nothing like that sound, and, if you’re not the one doing it, it can be a scary feeling when you hear it.

Well, designer Ivan Santic may have had a visual example of racking the shotgun in mind when he created the design for the pistol that you see above, the DX-12 “Punisher.”

Now, just to be clear, this pistol isn’t in production, but according to a writer going be Eric B, Santic has had other firearm designs become production models, so we can hope.

Just think about it: a shotgun small enough to lock away and/or conceal at your home with more intimidation factor than a Judge. Eric B says,

If Glock ever made a Shotgun, this might be it.

He’s got a point. Some of the squared off designs which are so recognizable on other pistols are showing up on this one, too. Frankly, with double-barrel shot options, this pistol, should it go into production, has a very real possibility of scaring the pants off of a home intruder. I know that it would get my attention if it were pointed my way.

Now, Eric B does make another point about this design:

For instance, it doesn’t look too ergonomic or comfortable to hold and shotgun shells are probably what generates the most recoil in the firearms world (depending on load, of course).

And that’s a valid concern with something like this, but, let’s be frank. Part of the point of a firearm like this is the potential for the scare factor. If this were pointed in your direction, wouldn’t you want to get out of the way and quickly?

Yeah, me, too. And I think that’s a huge part of the appeal: that it would do the job without actually having to fire it. And that is the ideal use of a firearm whenever possible.

  1. The best home defense is a shotgun preferably a sawed off one. The reason is two fold 1) Great for putting a person down because they are missing a large part of the body. GOTTA LOVE #6 bird shot magnums.2) The don’t have a long distance shot capability like a rifle or pistol. This means less chances of hitting anyone with stray pellets. I for one would love it if they could make a pump version of the double barrel shotgun. There was a special report many years ago that asked career criminals what made them leave homes alone while breaking into others and they all said the most frightening thing was the sound of a 12 gauge shotgun being pump to load a round. If a single round stops them the sound of two rounds should send them running even faster.

    • There is a pump version of a double-barrel 12 ga. shotgun. Standard Manufacturing makes the DP-12. It is 29.5″ overall with (2) seven round tubuler magazines. This bullpup designed gun costs about $1400.00 and is capable of holding 16 rounds. Loading is in-line from the magazines…Pump, and pull the trigger twice…first the right bbl shoots, then the left. Pump again and repeat.

This is an extremely well-made shotgun from a manufacturer with a great reputation. You can customize it with a number of accessories. Although pricey, it is well worth it.

    • I suspects this pistols origin stems from the Howdahh Pistol.
Which was a double barrel pistol used agains Tigers by hunters riding upon the Asian elaphant s

    • Jesse, one does not buy a gun just to scare someone as the intruder sees the gun as a weapon, and they, not having time to reason out the issue, responds by shooting first. Never point a gun directly a person unless you intend to shoot.

    • Chad, we already have several hand guns on the market that use .410 shotgun shells and they have no new design issues with which to contend, such as this ancient reinvented “angled” pistol grip, which interferes with easy sighting.

  2. If you think “scaring” a home intruder is a means of defense, you’re not dealing with reality.

    • I agree, Henry.
Joe Biden made that STUPID comment, a few years ago, about going out on your porch with his double-barrel shotgun, and firing 2 blasts — “Warning shots” — in the air to scare away an intruder… Leaving him standing there with an EMPTY WEAPON !! Not to mention that he lived just a couple 100 yards from a School, where those rounds could likely come DOWN…
But I keep MY shotgun LOADED and ready to fire! The way I see it…an intruder has PASSED the “warning zone” when they Break into my home! IF they get ANY ‘warning’ it will be a verbal warning while I am holding dead-center aim on them!
What if they heard that ‘pump’ and turn and immediately FIRE their Own weapon in the direction of the sound..??!! … while you are bringing your weapon up to aim…

  3. The best home defense is the Bullpup 12-ga by Panzer Arms, it’s semi-auto and compact.

    • Wow… How in the hell did that little beast escape my view?? That looks like a fantastic platform! And for $550?? Shit, I’ll buy 2!

  4. This reminds me of an old Dragnet show years ago when Joe Friday told his partner that he used a shot gun on this guy attacking him. He asked, “Did you kill him Joe? Joe replied, You would think so as the first cut him in half and the second make him into a crowd.

  5. If you pull it out you better be afraid for your life and you won’t shout a warning you’ll be pulling the trigger. Brandishing a firearm gets it taken away.

  6. GREETINGS ALL, OF COURSE THE SHOT GUN IS THE BEST WHEN YOU FACE A INTRUDER. OF COURSE A SEMI AUTOMATIC IS GREAT, A PUMP IUS ALSO GOOD. BOTH WILL DO MUCH DAMAGE TO ANY PERSON. KEEP UP THE GOOD DEFENCES AND ALWAYS TELL THESE BULLSHIT POLITICIANS TO FACE OUR CONCERNS AND SEE HOW THEY FEEL WHEN IT HAPPENS TO THEM. BIG FRITZ

  7. One-handing it is gonna be, interesting… I have a 12 gauge coach gun I’d trust a whole lot more.

  8. Gentlemen we must be practical if you’re not a handgun owner, A .410 ga. shotgun will be sufficient, saves your ears because it’s less deafening in a house than a 12 ga. A 12 ga. Shotgun has a much more violent recoil, you would most likely injure yourself if you’re not used to it ot prepared. less recoil also shortens your recovery time for another follow up shot. A 12 gauge recoil is no joke what if you miss and injure yourself. Yes, the action from a pump can be very detering and frightening. As far as brandishing a weapon, who is going to see it to considerate it brandishing in your own house. Your talking about inside the house right. If the intruder decides to run, give him a way out let him run. If he decides to engage it changes the whole story, but your ready. But keep in mine if you do take him out. it’ll be a whole big mess and in legal matters. The intruders family and next of kin would also want you thrown in jail. If he survives. you’d be paying his medical bills for the Rest of your life. Yea, I own guns but i’m in New York which is being run by these damn anti-gun Democrats. Which it doesn’t matter to me one bit They got their own bodyguards you don’t so you do what you gotta do, but do it right. I’m still here to write this because I did what I had to do because “I carried”.

  9. People, the NRA has loads of both classes and DVD programs that cover in detail how to defend one’s self, others and property, and there is far more to the problem than is being discussed. Many people have been punished for shooting a criminal who had not yet done any damage and was running away, including those shot just in the legs—being guilty of using “excessive force”. “PS”, I have been a life member of the NRA for over 50 years

  10. TAKE AWAY THEIR DAMN BODYGUARDS. LET THEM FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF WORLD WE REALLY LIVE IN. I DON’T WANT TO KILL ANYBODY. BUT I AM NOT LETTING HIM OR HER KILL ME!!

  11. A shot gun is a great weapon to have for you don’t have to worry much about missing your target and it will kill or take down anyone that gets shot with one!! I would recommend one for every family and I myself am really thinking of getting one for myself and one for my wife, but also keeping an assault rifle and a handgun is also recommended to have!!!! For into days world they are absolutely needed more than ever!!!!

  12. When is the NRA lobby going to start pushing pro-gun bills instead of knee-jerking after the anti-gun idiots have crafted their bill and it is moving through the legal process? We need to light up as many pro-gun bill as possible and bury the anti-gun in paperwork.
