For whatever reason, many people tend to assume that the desire for gun ownership is specifically a male pursuit and that women don’t want firearms. Maybe this is because women often tend to have more of a tendency to avoid conflict or maybe it is just anti-gunners projecting their own feelings onto women in general.
Whatever the case, maybe the first thing that people should do when thinking about this subject is to (surprise!) ask a woman. To save everyone the time of doing that, though, Bethany Mandel has already covered the subject for us. Her thoughts on the subject? “Women Need Guns.” Mandel sums up her article by writing,
To most feminists, feminism means eliminating power imbalances between men and women. A physical power imbalance between the sexes will always exist. But guns can level the playing field, potentially saving women’s lives in the process. To many, gun culture in this country evokes images of hunters and sport shooters; it is thought of as almost universally male. But for women such as Schaeffer [who used a gun to protect a co-worker], Kaehler [the co-worker protected by schaeffer], and Angela [a victim of domestic violence], having the right to own a gun is so much more: It is potentially the difference between life and death.
As Mandel notes in her writing, there will always be a physical disparity of strength between men and women, and nothing is going to change that natural difference in strength. So, while the majority of violent crimes are committed by men, women are at greater risk of being victims of that violence due to their naturally lower level of strength. To not see that a gun can make the difference when a woman is trying to protect herself or someone else is willful ignorance on the part of gun control advocates.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: if you want a safer country, then you need more responsible gun owners carrying at all times in this country, not less.
Most women, as there nature reveals, are afraid of cockroaches. and trying to be a man as the new fashion pushes, will never give them the feminine rewards that life has to offer. Robert
Robert you are an idiot, but most men are when it comes to preconceived ideals. Women are stronger than you think. Physically maybe not in muscles, but if you changed places with a women with children for one day you might learn something about yourself .
Robert I don’t know what to say. But try this on for size. ‘For fun, I put 1000lbs between my legs and squeeze.’ Now does that sound like a female who is scared of a roach? Who freezes? Who runs away from anything and dresses like a man?
The only thing I “run” from is maybe a rat the size of a Broder Collie.
FEMALE’S WERE NOT PUT ON THIS ROCK CALLED EARTH TO BE ABUSED AND SENCE THING’S ARE SO VOLATILE RIGHT NOW WITH ALL THE ILLEGAL’S IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN AND ANTI-AMERICAN BULL GOING AROUND IT IS MY OPINION ALL LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS SHOULD BE LICENSED TO CONCEALED CARRY FEMALE AND MALE!! LAWENFORCEMENT ARE WONDERFUL AND DO AN EXCELLENT JOB FOR THE MOST PART (BUT) THEY USUALLY SHOW UP AFTER THE FACT EVEN THOUGH IT’S NOT THEIR FALT THEY CAN’T BE EVERYWHERE AT THE SAME TIME AND THAT’S WHY WE PACK!! (LOAD UP AMERICA) BE SAFE!!!!
Where in the constitution, does it say we cannot own a firearm. It does not mention, we have to apply, nor does it say we have to register that firearm. The amendment says we are entitled a firearm, if we desire. It does not say, thank you, please, or any registration. It also does not mention age, either. That is a right to every citizen. If the criminals, and gang members dont have to register their firearms, why do we???
The crowd that wants to remove all firearm, i’m going to give them a dare. Walk up to a gang member and tell them you are going to take their firearm away. Please let me know, because I want to video tape this act.
“… criminals, and gang members don’t HAVE TO register their firearms…” is a lot of BS ! Almost all of the time, criminals and gang members have firearms that are stolen or purchased illegally. Many times they are felons forbidden to have any weapon in possession. Gun CONTROL is a control issue and has nothing to do with CRIME control, and that can be verified by ATF and FBI statistics.
Tell you what, you disarm all the criminals, gang members, terrorists, etc. then you can talk about gun control to we American citizens.
I agree that women should be armed. The tragic part of that, is that many freeze up, or only use the weapon to scare the attacker. This is not good. If her life is in trouble, pull out the weapon, and FIRE, your welfare is worth it. As for the turmoil over the 2A issue, no one seems to want to drag out the 1915 law that sets forth the FEDERAL requirement for an unorganized militia. While this law sets up the organized militia that is the National Guard, it also mandates an unregulated militia of ALL able bodied men (I believe that could be realistically opened out to include women) between the ages of 18 to 55. Life expectancy was not as long, then, as it is now. The point is this, on the Federal registry of law is a law that mandates an unregulated militia. America, wake up, the Fed says you are to be armed.
Would you happen to have the specifics on that law??? Title, section, etc? I’ve not been able to run it down in the few minutes since I read your post.
right you are.
and neither congress, the judiciary, president has the enumerated power to try and disarm we the people.
I have always said that, while there will always be some kind of weapon available, guns are the only personal weapons where strength, age, and gender are not a big factor in one’s ability to use them.
I like the idea of a woman carrying a gun maybe some of the “base” predatoral males that get a little frisky with touching a female without respecting her rights from unwanted advances will turn some of them back into “gentlemen”. Sure would be an incentive to be respectful if the little city pulls out a K-6 Kimber two inch .357 and sticks it in there right nostril. There are not many real men to day.most are posers.
Some of us were told to never pull a gun unless you intend to shoot. Waving a gun around is stupid.
Substitute the word city for city in my last message.
Looks like spell check got you twice. Lol. It has got me too, on numerous occasions. Some times with embarrassing results.
A newspaper article here in Idaho was about a game official not believing a woman actually shot one of the two deer in the pickup bed at a check station. He placed his watch over a nail on the roof line of the game station trailer and dared her to shoot it. She did. Bye, bye watch.
Many women teachers in rural Idaho are also hunters. Don’t mess with them.
Some men can be such jerks when it comes to women and guns, they think it gives them an opportunity to show how manly they are, or something. Fortunately, the last time my daughter shot with a guy like that, she out shot him (her FNX .45 against his 9 mm Glock), and he went looking for more conducive “game.”
As a (past) Navy Seabee Small Arms Instructor, I have seen females shoot better than a lot of guys, during annual Small Arms Qualifications. Who better to shoot “Expert” than the hands that can finesse a diaper pin without sticking the baby ?
I like it! I could do that with my new baby sister when I was 8!!
More gun possession = more civility. People will be more apt to act as gentlemen and ladies if they knew there were immediate consequences for bad behavior. Like getting your ads shot!
“An armed society is a polite society!”, I believe it was Robert Heinlein that it.
YI taught my daughter how to safely handle firearms and purchased a 22 TCM because she had
Big trouble trying to operate the slide on other larger caliber pistols. She loves to shoot it and
has become quite good at it with no problems operating the slide.
Re: Chuckles
My daughter is an Elementary School music teacher specializing strings/violin/viola/cello.
I would like to add how important it is to properly instruct the ladies or even young men in the use of firearms. Don’t give them your most powerful gun to be the fire gun they shoot. They need to know and what to expect. If they get hurt the first time they pull a trigger they might never want to shoot another gun. 22’s are a great starter.
As a former Automatic weapons range officer, I always found it amusing during familiarization firing and training firing that the females consistently outshot the males because they listened to instruction. They did not assume they were born knowing how to handle such weapons. Especially on the Ma Deuce, they let the tripod do its job rather than fighting the weapon and assuming they were John Wayne.
When I train anyone to shoot I start them off light with pellet rifle to teach Marksmanship Fundamentals then work them up in caliber and recoil slowly.
I have met few that really are comfortable with full bore 45 Colt or 44 Magnum loads in handguns.
When learning to shoot heavier guns remind everyone not to get your eye too close to the scope!
Woman against men loopsided, but make it woman and a gun against a man, even fight!
It has been said”an armed society is a polite society”.two issues come immediately to mind, the first being the founders intended an armed society to oppose tyranny in government.today’s political climate proves that with the demorat party.the second is one hundred and seventy million people murdered by their own governments in the last hundred and fifty years. Thank you, I will keep mine, regardless of the cost.
The struggles and bloodshed over the centuries to achieve a democratic society free of despotism, first in this country, then finally in Great Britain should NOT be relinquished because of a growing group on unthinking present thinking people people raised in the principles of Dr. Spock. This applies to both sexes, all races and religions. Our founding fathers knew that true freedom was not immediately established and some of them even predicted future bloodshed on our own soil for its further establishment. Again, this may have to happen again for the experiment of U.S.A. to succeed. It is in peril!! Greed, corruption, and lack of patriotism are rampant.
